Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas everyone! This coming weekend will be my last weekend for the year. I will be going on vacation until the first of the year while we relocate and celebrate the holiday season. From my family to yours, have a safe, wonderful Christmas.
First Step Pro-Wellness Giveaway
Good morning and Happy MONDAY to all!
I just wanted to give a quick shout to say I added an image to my tear sheets, for First Step Pro-Wellness. I am super glad to see the final product, its been a nail biter waiting to see how my work got used. We had a lot of fun coming up with the concepts and shooting them and it looks like it paid off.
And while you are checking it out, head on over to their facebook page and make sure you enter the contest! Who wouldn’t just LOVE a years supply of B12!
Images now load like they should… so check them out again.
I didn’t realize that the images did not pop up in larger lightbox views. I am sorry! I just wanted to let you know that it should be fixed now. The composite shot of myself in front of the truck with the binoculars will make much more sense now that you can see the images at a larger resolution.
Make sure you check them all out again if you haven’t already. Have a great day!
Some Website Additions
Howdy!
Boy the weather sure is getting nice outside, good thing I am stuck inside in front of this darn computer.
Just a quick blurb today… I wanted to let you know that I added some new photos to the Portraits Gallery, The Live Musicians Gallery, as well as the Home Page slideshow.
Enjoy, have a great day and I hope to hear from you!
Its Census Time!
Today I was out in the garage playing around with my lights and trying to get something set up to make some new pictures of my daughter when a census worker showed up asking me if I knew when the neighbors would be home. After explaining that I had no idea what their schedule looks like, I asked her if she would be willing to home stand in my hot garage and have her portrait made. I didn’t think to get her name, or a card, so hopefully she will stumble upon this and like it.
But… what do you have to do to STILL have the census folks on your case?
Happy Sunday!
p.s. Did you notice the new look? What do you think?
New Facebook Integration
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’ve had my fears that Facebook will eventually go the way of MySpace, Friendster, and whatever other defunct social networks you may have used. Now that Facebook has added timeline, gone public, and done other things to those of us who use the fan pages I feel that this might happen sooner or later. Hopefully never for Zucks sake… But I’m going to take this moment to lean more heavily on my website for communication.
This doesn’t mean that you won’t see activity on Facebook anymore. What I will be doing is posting 90 percent of the content here at bigjohnsphotography.com and posting links on Facebook for you to follow if you wish to see the photos, read the stories or anything else that comes spewing forth from my brain.
It’s also a good time to remind you that if you use an rss reader like Google Reader, you can subscribe to the website updates and ensure you won’t miss anything. Oh… And I know I haven’t sent out a newsletter yet, but it will happen one day, so take a second to sign up for it.
A Few Website Additions
Just a quick note that I added a couple images to the portrait portfolio, an image to the transportation section, and added a NEW gallery that is dedicated to the fun photos I do that are just for me that everyone should get to see!
Poke around!
Where have I been?
Ive been around! Sorry I have been so absent, I promise to make it up to you with… PICTURES!
But in the mean time, let me recap what I have been up to.
I have been trying to get lots of things done in my personal life, from getting my health in order, spending more time with my family and just relaxing. Essentially, I have been on vacation and I have enjoyed it. That being said, I have a few photos to add to the site, as well as I will have a special print for sale soon… or will it be a raffle, Im not sure yet.
I do have a couple projects that are in the pipeline, so stay tuned.
Benefit for Houston Underground Radio’s Hillary Marek
I am proud to announce that I am donating a photography package to the silent auction for Hillary Marek and the benefit that will be happening on Sunday March 18th 2012. I hope that you will able to attend the show, its sure to be great music, great friends and a great time.
On Jan. 22, Hillary Marek and her son Ryan Jr (we all know him as
Squishy) were brutally attacked. Hillary was beaten, strangled, and
almost killed. Their attacker was arrested for state felony charges
of: assault on a family member/ assault on a house hold member/
assault by impaired breathing. Due to this violent attack they have
sustained lengthy medical and therapeutic bills, had to move often
while hiding from the attacker, lost all of their belongings, and
are being denied any form of government assistance due to Hillary’s past income for this year. Because she worked/lived with her attacker she has not been able to return to work or home to gather any of her
belongings or get Houston Underground Radio back on the air. All of us in the music industry think that is unfair! We have all know Hillary
to be charitable and the first one to help out anytime some one has
asked with out fail. This time she has not asked us for help but we
are going to anyway.I am here to introduce myself as the new producer of Houston Underground. My name is Derek Norman. You might know me from my company Advantage Point Video, or the non profit Rockumentary I am working on with Hillary, ‘Heavy in Houston’. I have collaborated with a few bands that are close with Hillary and Squishy, not to mention Concert Pub North’s owner J.D. -who has worked many a benefit with her – who are all wanting to throw something together to help them out in this time of need. We need more bands, a street team to get the invites out all over facebook, twitter, google+ and cellphone blasts, and as many auction-able items as y’all can gather. Also, Hillary and Squishy have no furniture nor anything to move in to a place of their own, so if you have anything to donate let me know. We are going to try to have a truck available to take furniture donations, toys, food, ect. Keep in mind they lost EVERYTHING. Hillary is working a part time job, but it is only covering the cost of daycare, and they have no more savings to stay where they are at.

New Website Feature: Behind The Scenes
I just wanted to say that I am pleased to open a new section of the website, called Behind The Scenes. A lot of shoots I do are just a blast, and I wanted to have a place to show that what I do is fun, different and not your usual stuffy photo session you had as a kid with your family at J C Penny.
I am currently in the works with Advantage Point Video in hopes to start bringing some behind the scenes video to the site, so stay tuned.
